Hello! I am Brent Boswell.

I’m the resident Nutrition Consultant here at Modern Life Nutrition. I’m the luckiest guy in the world to be where I am today, to enjoy the good health that I do, and I want to share the things I’ve learned along the way that have made it all possible.

This is my story.

The Story

When I was 16, I was embarrassed to take off my shirt.

I was teased consistently by kids who looked better than me, and it began to wear me down.

I came to a point where I knew I wanted something better for myself, so I decided to get educated, and to take action.

Following the standard advice, I barely ate a crumb and ran for miles a week. The weight began to fall away. It was exciting, and I burrowed deeper into the folklore of weight loss.

I didn’t know what I was doing to my body.

I got much too thin, and the price for my malnutrition started to show. I couldn’t focus in class, I got the shakes at random times of the day and I depended on caffeine to function.

Eventually I was diagnosed with ADHD and depression. Prescribing me prozac and ritalin was all my doctor could do.

Rampant back rashes began to appear, and my dermatologist prescribed me prednisone like candy to get rid of them. In the lead up to Prom, itchy back rashes is not what a young man needs to feel confident! The pills got me through, but within a fortnight they were back, and this happened consistently.

I had an autoimmune disease, and my doctors were treating the symptoms, not the cause.

Come college, my interest in nutrition lead me to learn about bulking up, and like any testosterone fueled young man, I loved the idea.

Cue years of yo-yo dieting.

The cycle would begin by eating as much as I could and taking tons of supplements, gaining both muscle and fat. Not knowing how to maintain muscle and reduce fat, I would simply cut down calories and run myself lean again, just like in highschool, burning both muscle and fat in tandem. Not only was it a huge waste of time, I was also messing up my body’s proper functioning.

I knew there had to be a better way.

My step dad, a chiropractor, was at the end of his career and discovering the wondrous results of nutritional therapy. He shared something of what he had learned with me, and I fell in love with it. I realized virtually all the issues I had been facing were because of the way I was eating.

It was a revelation.

I’m a natural information junkie. I absorbed protocols, principles, classes, seminars. Everything I could find. I took on the advice I was reading and finally had some results that made me feel great!

At long last I had answers for this whole big mess I was going through.

For me, eating properly is not an option. It’s a necessity. I’m sure my clients secretly think I eat Mcdonalds in the closet, but besides my professional integrity holding me accountable, my body simply won’t allow me to eat poorly. I have a tailored nutrition and supplemental regimen that works for me, and I stick to it.

Using nutritional therapy on myself I’ve stabilized my mood and eliminated my need for medication to control my skin condition. Flare ups happen, but it’s 95% gone.

I’ve been through many of the issues I hear from my clients. I know it can be tough. It took me a long time to get to this wonderful place, and my career is devoted to cutting down that journey to a fraction of the time for you.

4 Years Later

I started in humble beginnings, using 1 room in my stepdad’s office for 2 years. I moved in with Dr.Sebastian Gonzales, now a good friend, at P2P Sportscare and expanded from 1 room to 2 rooms. They were exciting times!

Fast forward to now: I’ve married my soul-mate, settled down in Huntington Beach, and opened my own facility here, working with my amazing assistant Elle who I trust with my life.

In the beginning of my career as a nutritionist I saw incredible results in my clients so quickly that it gave me a buzz just to be a part of this emerging field.

I continued to refine my own methods and get increasingly better results. I currently use 3-4 protocols depending on the situation and what the individual needs.

My clients usually miss one to three components when changing their diet. It helps so much when I can do an analysis of the individual, bearing in mind their goals, and figure out what exact direction they should go in to get them there fastest.

People come in to see me usually because of weight-loss. In reality losing weight is just a by-product of healing the body. The underlying issues, feeling great, energetic, and overall health and wellbeing is what really gets the results.

Success is more than just the path we take, it’s how we walk it. Education leads to proper execution.

To lose weight without regard for the health of the body is to do just what 16 year old me did, starving himself into sickness and priming his body to store fat the next time his willpower wobbled.

I don’t want that for my clients.

I believe in focusing on the one or two principals that get you 80% of the results. Once you feel better, see results, and have more energy, we can move forward from there. Its easy to get overwhelmed, but I am here to not only share my own experiences with myself but the hundreds of clients I have counseled.

Most people have tried it all before they come and see me. Low-carb, high-carb, low-fat, high-fat, zero-carb, calorie counting, intense cardio, hormone therapy, weight loss supplements; I’ve seen it all.

I have never had anyone that has followed one of my protocols that hasn’t lost weight.

Some people give up and regress, however, and as such have developed tools that mitigate the damage of regression when it happens.

“Giving in” isn’t the same as “giving up” with me.

Eating is emotional, after all. Some of my clients lose the weight, feel the best they’ve ever felt, and then get cocky. Maybe they get careless, over confident, or perhaps a major event happens in their life. I have systems and tools in place for any eventuality.

We all need to come back and reset every now and then. I do it once a year. We are human. Life happens. I don’t promise a magic pill, but I do promise a system that works safely and that you can always come back to when you’re ready.

I offer the whole package: accountability, nutritional expertise, protocols tailor made to your specific body. I employ various strategies for different individuals to help them focus on what really gets them results.

Changing dietary habits will never be easy. We are disrupting routines you have been following for many years. It doesn’t happen overnight, and all I ask of my clients is to put in the work, be open minded and trust in my expertise. Clients who think they know best and alter my protocols are never successful, but clients who listen carefully and follow my advice to the last letter always see results.

Mainstream nutritional advice is flawed. People are seeking help, trying to change, and just not getting the support they need.  Doctors are overwhelmed with clients and can’t give the time and attention that it takes. My purpose is to pick back up those who have fallen through the cracks, who want to make change by don’t know how. I give them the support and guidance to make a true impact.  It excites me to help individuals who truly need the direction, because the results are just so astonishing.

If you have failed to get the results you are looking, even if you’ve been failing for years, don’t give up. It might seem like nothing will work on you, but come and see me before you make up your mind. It’s likely that there’s just one small thing that you’re missing that will make all the difference.

Let’s do it the right way. I have tons of experience in working with people with chronic disease, and obesity related conditions, as well as those who just want to lose some weight. There is a right way and wrong way to implement nutrition, and by working with me, you’re sure to get the results you want in a safe and healthy way.

My Favorite Food: Everything I don’t eat? Just kidding! :) I love the combination of eggs, turkey, and avocado! Try it yourself and you’ll see what I mean.

Favourite Sport Team: LAKERS! It’s impressive to see the mental strength in high-pressure situations and the hard work they execute to be a high quality athlete. We can all learn a lot from top-level athletes from any field.

Gym Routine : I keep it simple. Push-ups, pull-ups, squats, and planks. I cycle the routine twice, 3 times a week. I get outside as much as possible and keep moving throughout my day.
